What is
MyMissingNote?

An encrypted notebook that delivers itself. Write down what the people you love will need — accounts, passwords, farewell letters. Assign each note to the right person. If you ever stop checking in, it all gets delivered automatically. Nothing to do on their end. Nothing left unsaid on yours.

Step 1

Notes

A note has a title and a body — write whatever matters. Account numbers, passwords, insurance details, a message for your kids, your solicitor's contact. There are no templates and no rules. If it's something the people you love will need, it belongs here.

Every note is encrypted on your device before it reaches our servers. We store only ciphertext — we cannot read your notes under any circumstances.

Step 2

Assign

Once you've written a note, assign it to the people who need it. Not everyone needs to know everything — you decide who receives what. There are two ways notes can reach people, and they work differently.

You can use both. Many people add their partner to the Vault for faster access and also include them in Proof of Life as a safety net.

Mechanism

Proof of Life

Your check-in schedule. Set how often you want to confirm you're still around — weekly, monthly, whatever fits your life. Open the app and check in; that's all it takes to reset the clock.

If you miss a check-in, we send reminders. If you remain unresponsive, escalation begins and your notes are delivered to every linked contact. As long as you keep checking in, nothing is sent and nothing changes.

Normal

Checking in on schedule

Pre-escalation

Missed check-in, reminders sent

Escalation

Notes delivered to all contacts

Mechanism

Vault

A private space shared between you and a trustee — a trusted contact who has a MyMissingNote account. You invite them; they accept; a vault is created.

When a trustee believes the time has come, they can request access. Your only action is to deny it — if you don't, the vault unlocks automatically after a deadline you set. Decryption happens on their device: we hold no key for vault notes, ever.

Locked

Trustee has been invited and accepted, but has not requested access yet.

Requested

Trustee has requested access. You can deny it. If not denied, the vault auto-unlocks after your configured deadline.

Unlocked

Trustee can read the notes you've added to the vault, decrypted on their device.

Security

Encryption

All note content is encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM before it reaches our servers. Your encryption key is derived from your password locally and never transmitted.

Zero-knowledge

Vault notes are end-to-end encrypted using ECDH key exchange between devices. We hold no key — we act as a blind relay and cannot open these notes under any circumstances.

Delivery key

Notes delivered via Proof of Life use a delivery key we hold on your behalf. It exists for one purpose: to deliver your notes when your check-in lapses. While you're checking in, those notes are encrypted and inaccessible to us in practice.
